about

Back when these tracks were made (early 1991), it was all about sampling : no fancy synths or expensive beatboxes, only sounds sampled from various records and VHS, using an Ensoniq EPS lended by a friend. The synth bass from "He Chilled Out", The voice of Nikkie Van Lierop on "I sit on Acid", The synth on "Frankie "0" Generator", The Bassdrum of "Tricky Disco", you name it! And of course, Hal from "2001 Space Odyssey", plus Public Enemy's famous "Bass" sample in reverse as a nod to Front 242's Richard 23, all this blended with dialogues from the mythical last episode of Patrick Mc Goohan's "The Prisoner".
Those were the days!

Beyond the 2 original tracks, you get here two unreleased songs from the same period : "Number Nine Theme", that was clarifying where the band and label got their name ( ;-) and "Zim Boom (Gentlemen)", that offered a very unusual blend of New York Freestyle House and Belgian Hard Beat.

And to round the package, the "Demo Mix", also known as the "Bone Mix" (House lovers will get instantly why by listening to the bass sound!) It was in fact he very first iteration of "Zim Boom" in Fall 1990, and remained hidden in n9's floppy discs until 2005 when it was finalized and shared to fellow "Oldskool Lovers"on Discogs eponymous forum.
