Remember the good old days of Letratones ? Or is it you want to use screen tones to add these trademarks greyscale colors that gives Manga comics their inimitable graphic punch ? Then N9 has something special for you!
In 1996, among our many experiments about pushing the limits of digital typography, we created Typotone : a font that transforms any text into a screen tone, and allows you to play with it any way you want, without the pain of using images : as vector objects, the "letters" in the Typotone font set do not depend on the image definition!
How does it work ?
Take any text, type it at the size you want, with line spacing set at the same size than point-size. Your text will then becomes a screentone with a perfectly aligned grid of dots. Then do anything odd, like mixing different sizes and densities, or changing horizontal or vertical scales, and get striking results. Or even use it to "screen" and image by adding a white version of it upon any picture.
The family contains no less than 8 variants for your enjoyment, ranging from 10 to 80% in density. And yet, it is an ultra-cheap package for you to play with, wether you're a graphic nostalgist or a devoted mangaka!
Typotone is v2.0 and replaces the previous iteration, named Woof.
It is a commercial font family. But Typotone 40 is offered as a FREEWARE font (N9.015X), and is available at the following link : nemoeditions.com/N9/free/N9.015X.zip

After a bunch of tracks in the early days of Techno & Rave explosion, N9 focused on graphic design and conceptual
Typography, creating free or shareware fonts.
In 2001, N9 went back in the music area, and releases new tracks in the Electro Techno or Electronica genres, as much as pioneers the revival of the Acid New Beat genre.
